Nivà’s ice creams at the Market

If there was one thing missing this summer at the newly opened Time Out Market Porto, it was an ice cream shop. Problem solved. We brought in one of the best to a pop-up space in the market’s outdoor square.   Nivà was the first “Cremeria” to open in Portugal. Born in Turin in 1988, through the hands of Diana de Benedetti and her husband Silvio Rivolta, Nivà arrived in Portugal in 2018. What sets Nivà apart from a regular ice cream shop is the consistency of their ice creams—creamier, almost like a frozen mousse. It’s the “authentic artisanal gelato” directly from Italy, made with the best, 100% natural, and high-quality ingredients like Alpine pasture milk, Piedmont hazelnuts, or seasonal fruit.   Some of the most iconic recipes from this Italian gelateria are crafted by renowned chefs, including some who are Michelin-starred. This includes a collaboration with chef Vasco Coelho Santos (Euskalduna Studio), also present at the Time Out Market, featuring the flavor of one of his most iconic desserts, the rabanada.   Served in a cup or cone, some of the flavors available at this new spot include passion fruit, strawberry, açaí, extra dark chocolate, cremino, pistachio, dulce de leche, vanilla, stracciatella, yogurt, and coconut.
